Personal finance is not my background. So, I seek experts to advise me on how to create a budget and where to invest. I have friends who are experts in personal finance and learning from their expertise is crucial to my well-being.
I want to ensure I am being wise with my precious resources and financially stable for both my future. But, I yearn for more—I want peace-of-mind that I can not only sustain the welfare of my own family, but also my community and our world.
Our financial plan must also include figuring out what truly gives our lives meaning. For me, this has been establishing a plan for my own personal philanthropy.
Personal philanthropy is our own unique plan to make the world a better place–and consequently, enjoy the fruits of our labor. It is a plan for our lives that is drawn from our passions and skills. There are so many physical and mental health benefits for ourselves as we help others. A deeper sense of gratitude grows within us.
There is no greater sense of meaning and accomplishment than helping others.
Personal philanthropy requires these three crucial steps:
- Identify what missions you are most passionate about
- Find organizations that meet those missions
- Reach out to those organizations to inquire how you can help them
In addition to seeking out personal finance gurus, we also must seek-out information on creating our own personal philanthropy plan. I’m most passionate about mental health, education, and poverty alleviation. I have worked, volunteered, and donated in these three fields. While I do support other missions, these are my core focuses that motivate me to utilize my skills to make a difference in the world.
I am just one person, but my attitude, passion, and implementation of my values cause a ripple effect both within me and in society. With my personal philanthropy plan, I am creating my own legacy. These effects will put my stamp on the world from my short life.
Mother Teresa said, “If you can’t feed the whole world, then feed just one.”
I have the power to make change. I have the power to make a difference…as long as I use it. You have the power within you, too. Utilize that power. Feel it boomerang back. Don’t hesitate. You won’t regret it.
