Back to School

This September will be different for my family because not only do my kids go back to school—but so does this momma!

I’m excited to announce that I will start a masters degree in Nonprofit Management at Northeastern University. My core classes include Legal and Governance Issues, Financial Management, Strategic Management, and Promoting Nonprofits. Electives include Leading Teams, Crisis Communications, and Social Media. Soon I will be ready to be a nonprofit leader!

Back in 2005, my senior year of college, I knew I wanted to “help people” by working in nonprofits. I wanted to make a difference about poverty alleviation, mental healthcare, education, and in my community. When I started out at the YMCA development office, I had some big failures. After a few years growing older and wiser, I finally hit my stride. I’ve learned so much from both failures and successes and I try to have a growth mindset (hence going back to school!) This degree will enable me to confidently go in the next step of my career.

When I was considering getting into nonprofits, I didn’t yet realize the power fundraising has to change lives. In a little over a month, I start my new journey to dive deeper in learning more about my passion. I’m excited to meet fellow classmates who are just as eager as I am about helping people.

Where, oh where, will this degree take me? Who will I help next? Who will you help next? How can I help you?
